The Huawei Ascend G6 was unveiled at an extremely proud moment for the company. It was announced to the public with Huawei’s first ever bluetooth headset-cum-smartwatch known as the TalkBand B1 and a couple of MediaPad Tablets. The company had earlier signalled clearly to the public about its intentions to make things a little spicier than before and the release of the Fantastic Four together brought the spotlight back on Huawei.
This review however puts three members of the Fantastic Four to one side and focusses solely on what was probably the most anticipated of all three. The Ascend G6 is an affordable increment to the Ascend family which has its similarities with the Ascend P6.The smartphone was developed as a budget smartphone but Huawei just cannot keep off its good habit of stuffing some nice stuff inside their devices.
The phone’s design and build mirrors that of the Ascend P6. The front is all glass with three capacitive buttons in the bottom bezel. To be honest, we’re not a fan of these capacitive buttons as they spoil some good looking phones. Staying at its front, next up is the display. Featuring a 4.5 inches qHD capacitive touchscreen with 245 ppi pixel density. For us, a pixel density below 250 ppi is not at all a cause of celebration and we’ll maintain our stance with regards to the Ascend G6 as well.
The processor comes in at Quad-core 1.2 GHz with an additive of 1GB RAM. These two do not make a really good combo and lag free performance will probably come by hard. The camera comes in at 8 megapixels for the primary and 5 megapixels for the secondary. Huawei’s cameras generally do well and there is no reason why the Ascend G6’s camera cannot perform up to the level of its fellows.
After unveiling the more sought after features of the Ascend G6, here’s our pitstop signalling the end of our review of this smartphone. Well, we’re kind of disappointed because of some key things not going the user’s way in the G6 which are enough to put us off it. What about you?
