Huawei has a stellar history of producing smartphones that always have something more to offer than their price suggests. It has become one of those qualities that is deemed inseparable from the company as there are plenty of examples that exist which define that Huawei is all about value for money. Value for money for some is the concept of compromising on some specifications to lower a device’s price but phones such as P7, Honor 7 etc. simply suggest otherwise.
We’ve reviewed quite a lot of Huawei phones to date but never before have we seen Huawei done so poorly with a smartphone. Unfortunately, the Ascend G730 is the unlucky culprit and there are plenty of reasons, both above and below the hood that are good enough to explain why the G730 failed to become a market sensation.
The 5.5 inches display is probably its biggest asset. Moving onwards, everything goes downhill from here. The first component to meet us on our way down is its laughable primary camera. Coming in at 5 megapixels. We’re sure its compatibility with the gigantic 5.5 inches display is not going to pay dividends. The secondary is a VGA camera. We honestly believed these cameras were extinct and it is disappointing to see it in a smartphone released at the end of 2014.
Second is 1GB of RAM. If the 5 megapixel primary camera was unacceptable, this is nothing less than a disaster. You might argue all you want but even its Quad-core 1.3 GHz Cortex-A7 won’t be able to deal with lag that well.
Another one of its disappointing specifications include a mere 200 ppi pixel density. 200 ppi on a 5.5 inches touchscreen? That’s a sin! The internal memory only weighs in at 4GB and managing apps in this amount of storage can become a pain.
The Huawei Ascend G730 has been a huge disappointment overall. Weak cameras, inadequate RAM and a feeble display are some of its most disappointing features. The 5.5 inches display is its highlight but other than that, it is a complete disaster even for this price!
