It seems Honor decided to end the year with a phone perfect for those on a budget. Introducing the Honor 9 lite, the trimmed down version of the Honor 9 that was released earlier this year, with a price tag starting from Rs. 19,000. Let's dive into the details of this feature packed phone.
Simply put, the Honor 9 lite resembles Honor's latest spec'd up phone: The Honor V10. Sporting glass panels on both the front and back with aluminum frames on the side, it's pointless to mention that the Honor 9 lite is a really good looking phone. Needless to say, a glass/metal build is a design pattern not found at these prices. With the front of the phone mostly screen, the top and bottom bezels are where the front dual cameras/sensors and Honor logo reside respectively.
On the sleek back there's nothing but the main dual cameras and fingerprint scanner towards the middle.
Being a sub-20k phone, one would expect the traditional 16:9 screen. Honor pleases its customers by gracing the Honor 9 lite with an 18:9 display. With diagonal measurements of 5.65-inches and a resolution of FHD+, or 2160*1080, the pixel density of the Honor 9 lite equates to a very crisp 428ppi. The screen is an IPS LCD one, so you'll get more realistic colors as compared to those punchy ones found in AMOLED screens.
Traditionally, smartphones used to have 2 cameras, and 3 when dual cameras started popping up on the back. However, Honor seems to want to one up that with dual cameras on both the front and back, numbering a total of 4 cameras on the Honor 9 lite. The front 2 cameras are 13MP and 2MP respectively, allowing you to take portrait mode selfies. Video recording caps out at 1080p.
The main camera sensors are also 13MP and 2MP respectively, but they pack a few more features such as phase detection auto-focus. Camera quality is notches above the competition at this price point.
The great thing about the Honor 9 lite is that it comes in 3 versions, all really cheap. The cheapest ones come with either 3GB or 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, a blessing considering phones like the Galaxy A3 2017 are slightly more expensive and have only 2GB RAM and 16GB storage. The most expensive version has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The processor in all the models is the HiSilicon Kirin 659, an octacore processor with 4 cores running at 2.3Ghz and the other 4 at 1.7GHz. This big.LITTLE setup ensures efficiency and better battery performance.
A great step taken by Honor is that it blessed the Honor 9 Lite with Android 8.0 Oreo right out of the box, so no need to feel behind the curve. The battery in the Honor 9 Lite is a 3000mAh battery so you should see a day of usage if you're not a heavy user.
