Huawei’s Y series has seen some noteworthy members since its inception with their strength lying in the ability to produce good value for money devices. This prowess has somewhat taken a hit due to other manufacturers such as Xiaomi, Meizu etc. offering competitive specs in similar prices and the Y6 2017 might just be a victim of that especially considering that it commands an expected launch price of 28,000 rupees.
The Y6 2017 looks quite similar to its predecessors most notably the Y6 II and the Y5 2017. One of the many complaints people have of Huawei is their inability to distinguish the design between their higher and lower-end devices. The Y6 2017 features that very similar design pattern with two thick bezels flanking its front display panel while the back comprises mostly of plastic. Dimensions wise, we’re not that happy with its 8.2mm width but we’ll let its 150g weight go.
The Y6 2017 features a known 5.0 inches IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 294ppi pixel density. Translating into a 720p resolution, we do feel that most of you will feel aggrieved about its display particularly when you consider Meizu (and other manufacturers) offers a much better display in the MX6 or M3 Note in similar or even lower prices. That being said, we’ll do mention that 720p and 5 inches displays do go well together.
The Y6 2017 features a nice set of camera sensors, each with an LED flash of its own. The primary camera features a large 13 megapixel sensor with autofocus, dual-LED flash, touch focus, geo-tagging etc. that pretty much lead to it being labelled as a rather plain camera sensr. However, we’ve seen similar Huawei cameras perform very well and we’re positive that the Y6 2017’s primary sensor will follow into their footsteps.
The smartphone’s selfie sensor stands at 5 megapixels which is good enough for the 5 inches display on which it has to regularly display its results on. That being said, we would’ve liked a-tad bigger sensor here as well.
The Y6 2017 is powered by a 1.4 GHz quad-core Cortex processor with an additive 2GB of RAM. Not completely adequate enough to run the built-in Android Marshmallow, we do expect you to see some lag here and then. Again, we’ve seen smartphones with much better processing power and RAM within these price ranges so we’re somewhat disappointed with the Y6 2017.
Its internal storage stands at 16 gigs of which you’ll get close 10.1GB for your personal usage. If that’s not what you ordered, you can expand it through the external card slot. No fingerprint scanner, no fast charging but an acceptable 3000 mAh battery further adds towards our mixed feelings towards the smartphone while the device is available in either white, gold and gray colour schemes.
